2023 OD of the Year - Recipient and Finalists



Evan Davis, OD
Dr. Evan Davis is a native of Laurel, MS. He earned his Doctor of Optometry degree from Southern College of Optometry in 2010. Following graduation, he returned home to Laurel, MS and joined his father in practice at Eye Care Associates, a multi-location, private practice established in 1950. Dr. Davis currently serves on the MOA Executive Board as Past President (2021-2022). He was the 2018 recipient of the Helen St. Clair Young O.D. of the Year Award. Dr. Davis is active in his community, where he is a member of First Baptist Church of Laurel. He is also a member of the One Hundred Club of Jones County, which provides much needed equipment and support to first responders and their families. In his spare time, he enjoys spending time with his wife, Lori, and their two children, Eva and Easton. He also enjoys playing golf and attending sporting events.
Glenn Goldring, OD
Dr. Glenn Goldring is currently an assistant professor at the Southern College of Optometry. He joined the prestigious staff at SCO in 2008. Dr. Goldring teaches valuable clinical skills and mentors students by providing guidance, motivation, and stressing the importance of becoming an active voice in the national optometric association as well as their state’s association.
Dr. Goldring was honored to serve as a faculty representative for SCO’s Mississippi Student Club.
Following his graduation at Southern College of Optometry in 1978, Dr. Goldring opened his own practice in Senatobia, Mississippi.
Dr. Goldring took great pride in giving back to the community. His volunteer services included vision care at the Baptist Children’s Village and the Baddour Center in Senatobia. His volunteer work also included vision care at the Memphis Church Health Center and other services at the Memphis Food Bank.
Dr. Goldring sold his practice in 2018 after serving the community for nearly 40 years.
Dr. Goldring’s professional involvements included chairing the Political Action Committee (PAC) for the MOA during the critical period when Mississippi passed both the optometric diagnostic and therapeutic laws. He was instrumental in setting up the necessary and required continuing education, which allowed optometrists to begin using their newly attained therapeutic licenses. He served as the president of Northwest Mississippi Society for 5 years. Dr. Goldring served as the chairman of the board for the Omni Eye Service of Memphis, from 1987-1989. The Omni Eye Service played a major role in supporting optometrists in the states of Mississippi and Tennessee. Dr. Goldring is a lifetime member of the Mississippi Optometric Association and the American Optometric Association. He has served as a Southern College of Optometry representative for both SECO and the AOA.
Dr. Goldring continues to be an active member of the optometric family while maintaining his family life with his wife, Jamie of 45 years, their daughter, son-in-law, and two grandchildren.
Stacie Moore, OD
Dr. Stacie Moore is a partner in private practice at the Eye Clinic of West Point Inc., in West Point, MS. She has over 23 years of experience in providing exceptional personalized vision care. Dr. Moore graduated from Southern College of Optometry in Memphis, TN, where she served as president of her class during her final two years. Dr. Moore is motivated, passionate, and dedicated to service in her community and her profession.

Farryl Franklin, OD
Dr. Farryl Franklin is a native of Ridgeland, MS. She received the Bachelor of Science Degree in Biology from Tougaloo College in Tougaloo, MS where she graduated Magna Cum Laude. Dr. Franklin obtained a Doctorate of Optometry from Southern College of Optometry in Memphis, TN where she received extensive training in contact lens fittings, ocular disease, and pre/post-operative care.
Dr. Franklin is a graduate of the 2019-2020 Leadership Optometry Class. She holds membership with the following optometric organizations: American Optometric Association, Mississippi Optometric Association, National Optometric Association, and the Mississippi Chapter of the National Optometric Association where she serves as Vice President. Dr. Franklin enjoys serving her community as a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., and Junior League of Jackson. Additionally, she holds life membership with the Tougaloo College Alumni Association. Dr. Franklin enjoys traveling and spending time with friends and family.
Justin McElroy, OD
Justin practices with Eye Care Associates in Laurel, MS. He serves the MOA as Captain of the Grassroots South Committee, Chair of the Fall Continuing Education Committee, Member of the MOA PR Task Force, Member Elect for the MOA Board, and has been a PAC contributor since he was a student at Southern College of Optometry. His civic contributions include being a member of Kiwanis International and serving as Health Fair Committee Chair for the Nurture Our Future Nonprofit Organization. He also serves as a Senior Vestryman and as a member of the Usher’s Guild at St. John’s Episcopal Church. He is married to Dr. Tiffany McElroy, and they have two children, Henry and Amelia.
Walter Pang, OD
Dr. Walter Pang practices in DeSoto County, MS at Olive Branch Eye Care and Horn Lake Eye Care.
Dr. Pang, a native of Batesville, MS, received his Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from Mississippi College in 2007. Afterward, he went on to earn his doctorate from the Southern College of Optometry in Memphis, TN in 2013. Following the completion of his training, Dr. Pang practiced in the Jackson, MS area for 6 years before moving to Memphis, TN in 2019. He is an active member of both the American Optometric Association and Mississippi Optometric Association. He currently serves on the board of the Mississippi Vision Foundation and as the chairman for the Assistance to Graduates and Undergraduates committee for the MOA. Dr. Pang strives daily to provide his patients with high quality, compassionate and up-to-date comprehensive eye care.
He and his wife, Mary Rachel, reside in Memphis, TN and are proud parents of their newborn son, Walt. When away from practicing optometry Dr. Pang enjoys traveling, spending time with his family, hunting, and playing golf.

Josh Patrick, OD
Originally from Brookhaven, MS, Dr. Patrick received his bachelor’s degree from Mississippi State University and his doctorate from the University of Houston College of Optometry. He is a board member and the current President of the Mississippi Vision Foundation, and a member of the International Keratoconus Academy, Contact Lens Society of America, and the American Diabetes Association. Dr. Patrick practices full scope optometry but specializes in specialty contact lenses and sports vision. Outside of the clinic, he is an avid outdoorsman and enjoys attending MSU sporting events and spending time with his wife, Sarah, and their two dogs.
Kimberly Johnson Ragan, OD
Dr. Kimberly Johnson Ragan practices at Ragan Family Eye Care, LLC located in Madison, MS. She is a 2004 graduate of Southern College of Optometry. Dr. Ragan is a graduate of the MOA Inaugural Leadership Optometry Class in 2015. She served as the Board President of the Mississippi Vision Foundation for over 10 years where she helped guide the foundation through its expansion which includes the awarding of the Helen St. Clair Scholarships for rising Optometry students and restarting the 3rd grade Eye Exam program. As a MS vision Foundation board member she served on the task force that worked to set up the Jackson Free Clinic vision services department. Dr. Ragan’s commitment to the community continues through her participation in the Infant See and the Vision Mississippi program. She is active on the MOA Grassroots committee helping to support the professions legislative priorities. Dr. Ragan was recently appointed and confirmed to serve on the MS State Board of Optometry Dr. Ragan is thankful for the opportunity the profession has afforded her to serve her community.

Savanna Johnson, CPOA
Savanna Johnson is a medical scribe and patient care technician at Total Eye Care of Amory. She has been with the practice for almost two years, and during that time she earned her CPO and CPOA certifications through the AOA CPC. She is a lifelong resident of Monroe County, where she raises her two beautiful children alongside her husband.
Kayla Underhill, CPO
Kayla Underhill is the customer service manager at Brooks Eye Canter, and is an ABO certified optician with seven years of direct clinical experience. She loves being a small part of bringing the gift of sight to those who truly need it. She uses multiple outlets to learn and stay up to date with the constantly advancing medical, optical, and technological avenues in the ever-expanding field of paraoptometry.
