Why should I get my eyes checked?
The American Optometric Association recommends that a child should have their first comprehensive eye examination by six months of age. Since learning is visual, children should have an eye exam at least by first grade. The chart below is a basic guideline of how often to have eye exams. Patients who are on high-risk medications, or have systemic diseases such as diabetes require more frequent evaluations by their optometrist. People who wear contact lenses should have their eyes checked at least annually because a contact lens is a medical device and has the potential to cause injury and infection.
